Crazies in the Trailer Park

This week’s visit to the Trailer Park is devoted to that legion of folks who, for some reason, seem to love me: The Crazies. Since I’ve always attracted crazy people by the booby hatch-full, I figured this was a nice way to salute them. Here are three literary trailers for books about those nutty, nutty nutjobs out there.

First up, What Was I Thinking?: 58 Bad Boyfriend Stories by Barbara Davilman and Liz Dubelman, in which the authors recount some truly horrifying experiences with crazy-ass boyfriends.

Next, we have Curtain by that grande dame of the mystery novel, Agatha Christie. Curtain is the final novel featuring Christie’s signature character, the eccentric and endearing Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Poirot was always out nabbing the crazies and making the world a little more sane.

Finally, a salute to one of the world’s most famous books about crazies, Ken Kesey’s classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

      WHAT IS A SNARK?

The Snark is a creature created by Lewis Carroll in his poem "The Hunting of the Snark". To give a proper description of Snarks, one must look no further than Carroll himself, who summed them up in one word: Unimaginable.

But this much we do know: some have feathers, some have whiskers. Snarks sleep a lot, yet they are an ambitious lot -- with very little sense of humor. They love bathing-machines and tend to bring them wherever they go; they are also handy for striking a light. Snarks live on a far-off island, a place filled with chasms and crags, and are constantly on the lookout for Snark-hunters. Their mortal enemies are hope, care, thimbles and forks.
