The Presidential Trailer Park
On the heels of President-elect Barack Obama’s victory on Tuesday, I’ve compiled three presidential-themed book trailers for today’s trailer park.
The first, Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, is written by the fantastic journalist Gwen Ifill, known by many as the host of Washington Week and the moderator of this year’s vice-presidential debate. In Breakthough, Ifill celebrates Obama’s impact on the current political landscape, and also takes the opportunity to introduce us to some up-and-coming black voices in american politics.
Next we have Bill Clinton’s latest book, Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World. In this slim volume, the former president and present Mr. Hillary examines the transformative power of volunteering time and money to charitable causes.
Finally, Vincent Bugliosi’s Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder, which presents a detailed legal indictment against the 43rd president of the United States.
Halloweenie in the Trailer Park
Happy Halloween, Snarkolytes!
Put down those delicious apples with razor blades in them, and ready yourself for this week’s spooky-dooky Trailer Park. In honor of All Hallow’s Eve, I’ve chosen three scary, supernatural titles to present.
The first is Ghost Radio by the fantastically-named Leopoldo Gout. This trailer is ultra-creepy, and even though the book isn’t my style, I’m tempted to read it. If for no other reason then to hopefully love it and implore all of you to run out and GET GOUT!
The next book, Viking Unchained by Sandra Hill, combines time travel, romance, and what promises to be some really hot sexy times. And the novel also seems to beg the eternal question: is there anything hotter than a Viking in S&M gear?
I had to pick this last book, Ghosts of Albion: Accursed, because it was written (with Christopher Golden) by Amber Benson…a.k.a. Tara from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Snark loves him some Buffy, and Tara was primo lesbiano as Willow’s witchy lover. From what I can deduce, her book is a rather interesting-looking paranormal that definitely seems worth a peek.
Have a candy-filled Halloween! And don’t do what I do: turn off all the lights and hide as soon as those little brats start ringing the doorbell.
Trailer Park Friday: Mary Shelley, the Military, and Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!
In today’s installment of the Trailer Park, we check out three interesting — and vastly different — titles.
First up, the classic horror novel by Mary Shelley, written when she was just 21 years old and often regarded as the first sci-fi book ever penned.
Our next trailer is for a book that looks pretty damn fascinating. I will definitely put this in my To Be Read pile, but I’m thinking a Prozac cocktail will be a nice accompaniment.
And finally…
Sure she had some problems and thankfully survived intact…but Jan will always be my favorite.
